Schools in the Red Zone Continue to Use the Distance Education System

It was said by the Head of the Ministry of Education and Culture's Cooperation and Public Relations Bureau, Evy Mulyani, the new academic year 2020/2021 will begin mid-July 2020, in contrast to face-to-face teaching and learning activities.

"Of course our priority is the health and safety of students, teachers and parents so that the reopening of schools in the green zone will not necessarily be opened, but will be done very carefully, and still follow the health protocol," Evy said.

Explained by Evy, there are exceptions for schools in the red and yellow zones, the learning system still uses the distance model.

"Often we still find confusion related to the new school year is still equated with face-to-face teaching and learning activities at school," Evy explained.

Whereas schools located in the green zone area will be discussed by the Ministry of Education and Culture together with the Covid-19 Task Force for the Acceleration of Handling and related to health protocols discussed with the Ministry of Health.

Schools located in the green zone cannot be opened automatically, but through strict permit conditions.

"The distance learning model is the first choice so that most schools will continue to study distance learning as they have done in the past 3 months." Evy said further.

At present the Ministry of Education and Culture has recommended 23 pages that can be used by students as a learning resource in implementing distance learning systems.

According to Evy students can take advantage of various services provided by the Ministry of Education and Culture such as through TVRI, radio.

This includes using self-study modules and worksheets, printed teaching materials and teaching aids and learning media from objects and the surrounding environment. According to Evy, this requires collaboration between teachers and parents related to distance learning.

"Currently, we have distance learning that does require internet access to be online based, then there is also television based, radio based, and actually there are many modules available that can be used or studied independently." Evy explained.
