KKB Begins to Spread Hoaks Again

The Papua Regional Police said the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua began to spread hoax news. One of them was news that said the KKB had killed 17 Indonesian security forces in a firefight in Tembagapura.

"There is no truth in the news stating the presence of security forces both Polri and TNI members who died in firefighting contact in Tembagapura," said Head of Public Relations Papua Police Comrades AM Kamal in Jayapura, Sunday (03/08/2020).

Kamal said that at this time the KKB had begun to spread hoax news by stating that security forces had died in a firefight in Tembagapura.

On Saturday (7/3/2020) yesterday, the National Operations Commander of the West Papua National Liberation Army (TPNPB) Lekagak Talenggeng claimed to have killed 17 Indonesian security forces.

Lekagak Talenggeng, also said that there were hundreds of Tembagapura residents who had fled to Timika due to gunfire between TNI-Polri and TPNPB troops.

"Talenggeng's statement was not true," Kamal said.

Kamal said there was indeed a member of the Mobile Brigade who died, namely Bharatu Doni Priyanto. The tap occurred during a contact with the KKB in Kabur River, Arwanop, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency on Friday (2/28/2020).

Kamal confirmed the matter of the displacement of hundreds of residents in four villages in Tembagapura. But according to Kamal, it was done because of fears of residents who asked the security forces to facilitate and evacuate them to Timika.

"Around 900 people have fled to Timika and they are transported using PT Freeport's buses," Kamal said.
