Minister of Cooperatives and SMEs Teten Masduki reiterated his ministry's commitment to support the development of young entrepreneurs and SMEs in Papua. Teten explained that he had met with young Papuan entrepreneurs and SMEs to discuss business development there.
"In the middle of February 2020, Billy Mambrasar, a special staff of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, invited colleagues from the Inspiring Young Papua (PMI), a collaborative movement of young Papuan achievers to aim to accelerate welfare development in Papua," Teten explained, Thursday ( 4/23).
On that occasion, he had received exposure to the entrepreneurial program from the business actors. Until now, of the 308 types of businesses incorporated in PT PMI, there are 24 types of businesses supported by KemeKopUKM.
"The Ministry of Cooperatives and Cooperatives highly appreciates and fully supports efforts to develop pioneering entrepreneurs in Papua. Mr. Jokowi has great attention for the development of Papua," continued Teten.
This support, according to Teten, is needed so that more and more young people in Papua are interested in becoming entrepreneurs. Teten said, it was also looking for efforts to help young entrepreneurs in Papua.
"It can be through training activities, financing, or other forms," Teten continued.
Actually, said Teten, there are several LPDB financing schemes in KemenKopUKM. However, the financing scheme is only for cooperatives.
"So we are suggesting that groups of young Papuan entrepreneurs, like those who are members of PT PMI, form a cooperative. If needed, we can help and guide the formation of cooperatives so that they can get financing through LPDB," Teten explained.
In addition to forming a cooperative, other alternative financing is through the People's Business Credit or KUR. With low interest, this program is expected to help the capital of young Papuan entrepreneurs.
"In essence, the government through KemenKopUKM highly appreciates and always supports development in Papua, including pioneering entrepreneurial efforts and initiatives of the younger generation through various appropriate program schemes, activities and financing," explained Teten.
Teten also explained, as stated by LPDB Managing Director Supomo, that until now there has been no credit through cooperatives recommended by PMI.
