Paniai Regency Government Ready to Buy Local Food for Community Consumption

In order to accelerate the handling of Covid-19 in Paniai Regency, fast, precise, focused, integrated, and synergic steps between regional and vertical agencies in Paniai Regency are needed.

Therefore, Paniai Regent Meki Nawipa said that the Paniai Regency Government has set a task force (task force) for social safety nets and economic impacts after the establishment of Covid-19 pandemic emergency alert status in Paniai District on Wednesday (4/29/2020) yesterday.

"So we have formed this task force for local food shopping owned by residents, then the government buys. Then we share it with the public for their consumption, "said the Regent of Meki Nawipa on Thursday (4/30/2020).

According to him, all stakeholders were involved in the task force to revive local food security owned by local residents. "So we will buy it in each village, so that people enjoy their own processed products," he said.

John Nicolas Pigome, Head of the Paniai Regency Food Security Service who was appointed as the head of the local food task force said, starting Saturday (05/02/2020) it will go down to hundreds of villages spread across 24 districts.

"For the next three days we have given the task to 24 district heads to collect data in all villages, how many gardens can be harvested such as petatas, vegetables, fruits and others," Pigome said.

The spread of Covid-19 in the world tends to increase from time to time causing greater casualties and material losses and has implications for the social, economic and welfare aspects of society. Therefore, said John, his party will continue to invite the community to return to gardening as before.
