The West Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) plans to start the railroad project this year.
The head of the West Papua Transportation Office, Agustinus Kadakolo in Manokwari, said that currently there are investors who are ready to finance the construction of the project. The local government, he said, will soon resolve some of the shortcomings as well as the development requirements document.
"Among them are environmental permit or environmental impact analysis (environmental impact analysis), land use change from KLHK (Ministry of Environment and Forestry), land acquisition and recommendations of regents and mayors," Kadakolo said, Monday, June 22, 2020.
In fact, he said, the EIA document for the project had been ready since last year but had to be revised again. For matters of recommendation, the remaining regional heads of the Sorong Regency Regent.
"The Governor's recommendation is ready to be issued if all regents and mayors have submitted. We will also immediately propose land conversion to KLHK, this needs to be done because this railroad will cross the protected forest area," he said.
For land acquisition, continued Kadakolo, the West Papua Provincial Government will coordinate with all regencies / cities so that the initial stage of development will run smoothly. After all documents are ready, he will submit to the Director General of Railways of the Ministry of Transportation.
