Papua Ready to Hold PON 2021

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe said, with the postponement of the Papuan PON, it provides an opportunity for the host to continue to improve and prepare everything far better, ranging from venues, accommodation, transportation and other matters.

"All of the venues we have built and prepared perfectly are just carrying out this four-yearly sporting event in 2021," Enembe said at the Liaison Office of the Papua Province, Jakarta, Tuesday (7/14).

Lukas added, the preparations for the PON to this day are still continuing according to the initial schedule while still observing the health protocol.

"So it can be said, we (Papua) will be most ready to face PON 2021," he said.

Previously, Deputy Governor of Papua Klemen Tinal said that his party accepted the decision of the central government, and the postponement of the PON provided an opportunity for Papua as the host to be better prepared to prepare for the four-yearly sporting event.

"So, this PON retreat is an opportunity for Papua with the remaining time we use to resolve matters related to PON such as venues and other supporting infrastructure," Klemen said.

According to Klemen, the PON was postponed purely because of the problem of the increasingly widespread Corona virus. There are no other interests. For this reason the people of Papua must also accept the decision of the central government.

"We appreciate the decision of the central government to postpone the PON, because this is a National activity, Papua is only appointed as the host of the implementation, Papua will be better prepared with the remaining time, we will finish the PON venue that is being worked on," he said.
