Community Leaders Support the Expansion of Papua Province
The expansion of the province of Papua is one of the solutions to accelerate the welfare of the people. The plan received support from various parties including Papuan community leaders.
Papuan community leader Pdt Albert Yoku asked for law enforcement for local government officials who used the special autonomy fund. This was conveyed by Albert when he met the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD together with the Forum for Regional Heads in Tanah Tabi and Sairei (FORKADA) Papua Province at the Ballroom Palace, Hotel Sari Fasific Jakarta.
Albert Yoku, as part of the Papuan expansion team, said that his party hopes that there will be law enforcement in Papua, especially government officials in the regions as well as everything used by the Special Autonomy funds.
According to Albert Otsus is a great blessing from the central government for indigenous Papuans. If this is used properly, of course it will be a blessing, especially in the education, health and economic sectors.
On that occasion, Dorince Mehue, a female leader, as the head of the Papuan Evangelical Christian Church (PW GKI) women's association, asked the central government to evaluate the use and management of the special autonomy fund from 2002 until now.
Dorince revealed that this Otsus was a blessing from God through the central government but was abused by a number of people.
According to Dorince, the central government needs to promote a joint evaluation with the Papuan and West Papua People's Assembly, including the gaps between the remaining customary territories.
He also added that the Papua Province must be expanded, this is aimed at achieving justice so that not only a number of customary territories and territories receive sufficient Otsus funds. His party is also ready to support central government policies.
Responding to this, Mahfud MD as the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs will follow up on the proposal and have gathered the Attorney General's Office, the KPK and the Police so that law enforcement can be followed up immediately.
The former head of the Constitutional Court said he always listened to law enforcement when having dialogue with the community and Papuan leaders. His party has also just gathered the Attorney General's Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission, the National Police to bring up this aspiration, law enforcement will be followed up.
Mahfud MD will follow up the proposals received in two steps: first, the legislation process will later be submitted to the team through the Ministry of Home Affairs. Second, he has asked deputy one of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs to immediately map it so that the division area is correct, including reviewing proposals from regional heads and community leaders.
On the occasion, also attended the Head of BSSN who is also a former Papua Military Commander, Secretary of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Major General TNI Tri Soewandono who is also a former Danrem Papua, Deputy for Regional Police, special staff of the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Members of the Papua People's Assembly (MRP), Regional Heads and DPRD Papua Province as well as the expansion team of Papua Province.
Previously, Mimika Community Leader Athanasius Allo Rafra viewed the discourse on the formation of a number of new provinces in Papua, such as South Papua and Central Papua, needed special support and attention from the central government to accelerate equitable development in the eastern tip of Indonesia.
The former Mappi Regent said he was of the opinion that no matter how smart the officials at the provincial level were, he would be overwhelmed because Papua was too large. One problem has not yet been resolved, yet another problem has arisen. It all requires attention and energy to solve it.
The formation of the new provinces in Papua is not for the purpose of sharing power, but more than that so that the presence of the provincial government as the representative of the central government in the regions can be more effective in helping accelerate the progress of the Papuan people.
This happened amid difficult geographical conditions, difficult and expensive transportation access, and even a number of locations could only be reached by airplane. This is coupled with limited human resources and frequent security disturbances.
Fadel Muhammad as a member of the DPD RI said that he considered the expansion of the Papua region as important to do. According to him, this expansion will have an impact on improving services to the community.
With this expansion, regional leaders are not too far from reaching remote areas that are difficult to access by land vehicle.
Pemekaran in Papua is something that is very likely to be realized, especially if this has received support from the government and traditional leaders in Papua.
