PHRI Papua Hopes PON XX Becomes an Event to Improve the Economy

The Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) in Papua hopes that XX PON will become an arena for increasing the economy in Indonesia's easternmost province. Currently, hotel construction is starting to bloom again after a suspended animation due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This statement was conveyed by the Chairperson of the PHRI Papua Sahril Salim to Antara on Friday (4/6) in Jayapura. He said specifically for the City and Regency of Jayapura, several new hotels appeared which would later become new jobs.

The hotels built are expected to accommodate PON XX participants from various regions in Indonesia. "What is certain is that PHRI Papua is ready to support PON XX which is scheduled to take place from October 2-15," said Sahril.

When asked about the readiness to implement health protocols (prokes) considering that Covid-19 is still endemic, Sahril admitted that hotels and restaurants in Papua always implement health protocols in their operations. Prokes have become the standard during the Covid-19 pandemic, not only in hotels and restaurants but also in stalls that prepare handwashing facilities and soap.

PON XX will be held in four districts and cities in Papua, namely Jayapura City and District, Merauke, and Mimika District. Currently, there are 80 hotels from various categories spread across the four districts and cities where the XX PON is held in Papua.
