Stop the Provocation, Don't Let the Persecution Case in Merauke Grow like in the US
Member of Commission I of the DPR, Abdul Kadir Karding, assessed that the case of mistreatment of a resident in Merauke was prone to become a means of provocation by raising ethnic issues. Moreover, according to him, the government's political opponents are looking for momentum.
Karding hopes that the public will not be provoked by the narrative that was created to make the atmosphere hotter.
"We must deal with all parties, especially the provocations, how to do it immediately. Do not let this become an issue like the case in the United States, between black and white groups. Do not let the narrative be brought there, we must prevent it," Karding told reporters on Wednesday ( 28/7/2021).
In the future, Karding hopes that the Police, TNI, Satpol PP or other organizations that often come into contact with the community can discipline their members. So that the attitude when meeting the community can be better.
In addition, Karding assessed that there should be immediate communication and coordination with local community leaders. "Local government and analysis by intelligence, for example, to what extent this potential issue will affect our security," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Member of the House of Representatives Commission I Bobby Adityo Rizaldi invited all to entrust the handling of the case to the TNI with investigations, internal military discipline and punishment for the perpetrators.
"So that it is clearly conveyed to the public and fulfills a sense of justice," said Bobby.
In addition, according to Bobby, all parties need to stop the distribution of videos of persecution to a resident in Merauke.
"Because it is vulnerable to being misused for hate speech propaganda to the TNI. It is very vulnerable to be associated with issues of human rights violations that are vulnerable to being twisted both domestically and internationally through social media," he said.
Bobby also reminded that the TNI Commander, Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, always insisted on putting forward a humanist approach, not repression in all deployments of soldiers for each operation.
"The government must move immediately to reduce issues that could develop, optimize coordination with intelligence nodes for early detection, and synergize with local leaders so that this issue is resolved and waits for the legal process to take place," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo has apologized for the incident of abuse by two of his members against a resident in Merauke, Monday, July 26. He also said that the perpetrators would be dealt with strictly.
"As the Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Air Force, I would like to express my deepest apologies to all our brothers and sisters in Papua, especially in Merauke, especially to the victims and their families. Please open the door for forgiveness," said Fadjar through the Indonesian Air Force's official Twitter account.
Head of the Air Force Information Service (Kadispenau) Marsma Indan Gilang Buldansyah in his statement said, "We regret the excessive actions by two members of the group when protecting residents. Since yesterday (Monday) both of them have been detained at the Satpom Lanud Dma for further legal proceedings."
