Deputy Regent of Mimika, Papua Johannes Rettob expressed his pride in the creation of a number of record-breaking PON and national records by athletes competing in XX Papua PON in the sub-cluster of Mimika Regency.

"I am proud because there are many records that have been broken in Mimika so that this PON is really a place to improve the achievements of athletes. In athletics there are many records that have been broken, as well as in skydiving. emerged as the champion, while North Sulawesi, which had never been in the final before, now won second place," said John Rettob in Timika, Thursday.

John said that the implementation of PON XX in the Mimika sub-cluster not only triggered the breaking of a number of PON and national records, but also gave birth to many surprises.

The surprises were the appearance of teams that were not seeded as champions, while there were also superior teams that fell.

This is considered good for the progress and distribution of sports achievements in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, the Deputy Regent of Mimika appreciated the support, cooperation and collaboration of all parties in the success of organizing PON in Mimika so that there were no fatal incidents that befell the athletes who competed, especially during the organization of the aerosport branch which includes the disciplines of kite flying, aeromodeling and parachuting. .

The three sports disciplines are considered very vulnerable and at risk of accidents.

"Thanks to God, during the aerosport competition that took place in Mimika Regency, practically no incidents and accidents occurred. Likewise with other sports, everything could be finished well without any problems. Even if there were small obstacles, it was normal in the match. But sportsmanship during the match is what we all take care of," said the former Mimika Kadishubkominfo.

On behalf of the Regency Government and the Mimika community, the Vice Regent expressed his gratitude for the support of the entire Mimika community who has acted as a good and friendly host to the guests, athletes and officials from all provinces who came to compete in the PON in Timika.

Before the PON took place in Papua, especially in Mimika, he said, it was undeniable that many contingents were worried about the security situation and others.

"There may be people who think that we in Papua are nothing or can't do anything. Moreover, Papua is far away, not as safe as they usually see and read in the news. to Papua, Papua's conditions are safe and we can provide good service to all guests who come," he said.

From the experience of organizing a celebration as big as PON, according to John, the Mimika Regency Government and all related components must be able to seize the opportunity to be able to continue to hold national and international level events in the field of sports in the future.

PON XX Papua activities in the Mimika sub-cluster will officially be closed on Friday (15/10) night by holding the "Gebyar PON XX" event in the Timika Indah area.

On Thursday, there are still several sports to hold the final as well as a ceremony honoring the winners as well as closing events such as athletics, billiards, handball, 3x3 basketball and skydiving.

As one of the XX PON organizing clusters, Mimika Regency hosts nine sports with 12 sports disciplines, namely kite flying, futsal, skydiving, aeromodeling, billiards, basketball, athletics, handball, judo, fighting degrees and rock climbing.
