Jokowi at the Closing of Peparnas Papua 2021: Great People!

Indonesian President Joko Widodo officially closed the XVI Papua 2021 National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) on Saturday (13/11). Previously, Papua also successfully held the National Sports Week (PON).

"Congratulations to the province of Papua for all of its achievements. In this Peparnas, the province of Papua is the overall winner of the most medals," said Jokowi in his closing speech at the Presidential Secretariat website, Saturday (11/13).

"And congratulations to Papua for successfully hosting PON and Peparnas. Once again I say, not only people can do it. But people are great," added Jokowi.

Jokowi also expressed his appreciation to the athletes who have struggled through all limitations.

"The athletes that I am proud of. This National Tournament shows many messages that difficulties are not obstacles. With hard work and consistency we can overcome difficulties," he said.

Also accompanying the President were Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Investment/Head of BKPM Bahlil Lahadalia, Minister of Youth and Sports Zainudin Amali, Special Staff of the President Angkie Yudistia, and Mayor of Jayapura Benhur Tomi Mano.

The host Papua managed to become the overall champion by winning a total of 295 medals, with details of 127 gold, 87 silver and 93 bronze.

This figure beats West Java which is in second place in the final standings with 110 gold, 92 silver and 75 bronze. While Central Java is in third place with 89 gold, 60 silver and 76 bronze.

In addition, based on data from the organizers, there is a record breaking created in the biggest sports event for athletes with disabilities.

In athletics, there are 96 Peparnas record-breaking. Likewise the swimming branch with 39 national record-breaking and Peparnas.

There were also two record-breaking ASEAN Para Games in swimming. Then the heavy lifting there are 13 record-breaking.
