KKP prepares skilled human resources for the performance of freshwater aquaculture in Papua
The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) conducted a training program for around 100 cultivators in order to prepare skilled human resources to improve the performance of freshwater fish farming in Papua Province, 16-17 November.
"Papua has good potential for the development of freshwater aquaculture. It is known that 80 percent of restaurants in Jayapura offer a lot of freshwater fish," said Head of the Marine and Fisheries Research and Human Resources Agency (BRSDM) KKP Kusdiantoro in a written statement in Jakarta, Wednesday. .
According to him, the implementation of freshwater aquaculture training to the community was also carried out due to the high demand for freshwater fish, such as mujair, tilapia and catfish in Jayapura.
This, he continued, would certainly be a business opportunity for the local community so that it needs to be supported by training and cultivation facilities so that they can maximize the skills and knowledge of cultivators.
He stated that the development of aquaculture technology, especially freshwater aquaculture, such as bioflocs, RAS, the use of probiotics has also boosted productivity and efficiency in aquaculture performance.
"Commodities of superior freshwater fish from breeding, such as Srikandi and Nirvana tilapia, goldfish mustika, pearl catfish, mighty catfish, bima carp have become fishery commodities that can be cultivated in the community," said Kusdiantoro.
Through this training, his party also hopes that the Papuan people can have new opportunities in the business world that can increase household income so that they can provide great support for improving people's welfare.
The training was carried out through the KP Training and Extension Center and the Ambon Fisheries Training and Extension Center, in synergy with the Member of Commission IV DPR RI for the Papua Province Dapil, Sulaeman L. Hamzah.
Sulaeman L. Hamzah, explained that this training aims to preserve the endemic fish of Lake Sentani through aquaculture.
In addition, his party also hopes that this training can increase the yield of freshwater fish cultivation for the Papuan community, which is currently constrained by lack of feed due to lack of expertise, thus making the fish cultivated to grow stagnant.
"This training must be a solution for the growth of freshwater aquaculture in Papua, so that freshwater fish can not only be enjoyed by people living near Lake Sentani, but also people living in the mountains," said Sulaeman.
Moreover, he said that the increase in fish cultivation production in freshwater ponds is quite rapid, around 11 percent every year, which shows that there is a great passion in the community to develop freshwater fish farming businesses.
