Risma Distributes IDR 3.7 billion for Papuan Indigenous People

Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini provided assistance worth Rp. 3.7 billion for Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT) in Asmat Regency, Papua. The assistance is given to encourage community empowerment in remote areas.

The condition of Erosaman Village, Der Komour District, Agats, Asmat Regency which Risma visited is a disaster-prone land because its height is only 2-3 meters above sea level. The area is prone to flooding when sea levels rise.

"This obstacle can be overcome in various ways, I believe it can be overcome. But it does require hard work," said Risma in Erosaman Village, Asmat Regency, Papua, Thursday (11/11).

Specifically for handling extreme poverty, the Ministry of Social Affairs provides assistance to 23 KAT groups in the form of vegetable farming and hydroponic crops.

Risma also distributed donations to Agats Diocese, namely 5 kiosks and the contents were basic necessities along with distribution of goods, magnetic generators and computers for each kiosk. In addition, the Ministry of Social Affairs also provided assistance in the form of 10 laying hens farms, 3 longboat boats and honorariums for 6 local assistants for 3 years.

The total assistance provided by Risma is worth Rp. 3.7 billion for vulnerable communities and residents of Remote Indigenous Communities (KAT) in Asmat Regency.

Meanwhile, the Regent of Asmat Regency, Elisa Kambu asked for serious attention from the Ministry of Social Affairs to encourage the progress of the Remote Indigenous Group (KAT) community in Papua.

According to him, a socio-economic strengthening program and sustainable empowerment are needed to increase the competitiveness and independence of the community while at the same time restoring the economy due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

"Hopefully our area will become a serious concern for the central government through the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, KAT assistance which is focused on a number of villages in Asmat is very useful," he said.
