Two Police Selling Papuan KKB Ammunition Set as Suspects




Two police officers who were arrested by the Nemangkawi Task Force on suspicion of selling firearms ammunition to the armed criminal group (KKB) in the Nabire area, were officially named suspects.
The two police officers each had the initials JPO who served at the Nabire Police Station and the US who served at the Yapen Islands Police Station.

"He has been detained, he has become a suspect," said the Head of the Nemangkawi Operation Law Enforcement Task Force, Kombes Faisal Ramadhani when confirmed, Monday (2/11).

Faisal said that from the results of their investigation, it was known that they only sold 80 rounds of ammunition. No firearms were also traded by the two suspects. Faisal explained that this was the first time the two police officers had taken this action.

Faisal has not explained further regarding the motive for selling the ammunition.

"This is the first time (selling ammunition). It is still being investigated (the motive)," he said.

Previously, two police officers were arrested by the Nemangkawi Task Force on suspicion of selling firearms ammunition to an armed criminal group (KKB) in the Nabire area, Papua on Wednesday (27/10).

"Yes (there have been arrests) further investigations are being carried out," said Head of the Nemangkawi Operation Law Enforcement Task Force, Kombes Faisal Ramadhani when confirmed, Friday (29/10).

From the information gathered, a total of Rp. 12.1 million was confiscated during the arrest, allegedly from selling ammunition.

It is suspected that they sold 80 rounds of ammunition. However, the police are still investigating the identity of the KKB member who received the ammunition.

KKB is the name given to the apparatus for Papuan separatist groups. Meanwhile, they refer to themselves as the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organization (TPNPB-OPM). The government calls the KKB a terrorist organization.

In total there are 19 groups that the government is fighting. The government uses Law number 5 of 2018 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Terrorism as a legal basis.

The National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo had reminded the ranks of the Indonesian National Police and the TNI to be alert to security threats from the KKB towards the end of the year.
