Guerilla education booster vaccines for residents in Papua

Corona Virus Disease-2019 or COVID-19 continues to mutate with new variants so that the government continues to innovate to find solutions and alternatives to overcome and anticipate its spread.

From the latest developments, there has been the latest mutation of COVID known as Omicron (B.1.1.529). The capital city of Jakarta is currently busy dealing with the number of residents who have been re-exposed to this new variant of the virus.

It is the same with Papua Province and the stakeholders in it. All groups at every level are involved and involved in the anticipation and handling efforts. Starting from socialization to education related to vaccines, vaccinations, boosters and others, they are now familiar to the ears of the Papuan people.

Governments at the provincial, district and city levels in partnership with other institutions continue to promote the importance of vaccines and vaccinations, especially now that a booster has been provided, namely the third vaccine to complement the first and second doses of vaccine.

The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of Papua has even appealed to the people in its territory to take advantage of the free COVID-19 booster vaccine.

Assistant for the Economy and People's Welfare of the Regional Secretariat of Papua Province Muhammad Musaad said that his party had started to administer the booster vaccine free of charge and this was an convenience that must be utilized properly.

"So we encourage people to immediately give themselves booster vaccines and not to delay," he said.

The reason is, this booster vaccine has an expiration date so it must be used immediately and the public must take advantage of it when there is still a chance. Where by utilizing this booster vaccine, it can increase the body's immunity and it is hoped that all people will be healthier.

The Papua Provincial Government also appealed to the people in the region not to be afraid to receive further vaccines, especially booster vaccines. The government also continues to remind citizens to be vigilant against COVID-19 even though the spread of the virus in Papua has now been controlled.

The government also always communicates with local hospitals to ensure the availability of treatment rooms for COVID-19 patients if Omicron breaks through the "defense" that has been built since last year.

Don't be afraid of vaccines

In addition to the local government, the Papuan Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) also continues to urge the public to be vaccinated immediately and not to be provoked by irresponsible issues.

For this reason, the Head of the Papuan Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) Donald Aronggear also reminded the public regarding the issue of expired vaccines.

"People must be vaccinated completely, namely the first, second and booster doses," he said.

The public must know that the vaccine is still valid for free so that they can get vaccinated from an early age, both in the follow-up and in the first and second stages.

Donald did not forget to remind that in other regions, vaccines are not necessarily given for free, so this must be well understood.

If studied again, the co-immunity that is now seen with the presence of a new variant of the virus, namely Omicron, is the result of a vaccine.

"So that people don't have to be afraid regarding expired vaccines, health workers will definitely know what they are doing for the community," he said again.

Health workers have been fully vaccinated so that now it is hoped that the community can follow suit so that the joint immunity that is sought can be achieved.

Vaccine expired

As it turned out, the fake news about vaccines didn't stop. Now it is starting to spread that many expired vaccines are being used by the public.

So the Papua Provincial Health Office asked the public not to be trapped by the term "expired vaccine" so that in the end they were afraid to be vaccinated.

There is no "near expiration" term, only "expired" and "non-expired" terms.

"The Papuan Provincial Government (Pemprov) through the Health Service is injecting the public with vaccines that do not expire," said Head of Disease Prevention and Control at the Papua Provincial Health Office, Aaron Rumainum.

For this reason, people do not need to worry and be afraid to be vaccinated, either the first, second or booster doses.

However, it is recognized that the number of COVID-19 vaccines is limited.

For example, the AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccine, the Papua Provincial Health Office received 30 vials from West Papua on January 7, 2022 in the afternoon and expired on January 17, 2022.

"Is it with expiration on that date that it can't be injected today or yesterday?," he said.

If someone needs a second dose, then the vaccine can be used, so that people are reminded once again not to be trapped by the term "near expiration", in which the number of vaccines is limited and must be utilized optimally.

Luckily, now many related parties such as the TNI-Polri ranks, BUMN and BUMD have started to help and partner with the government through the local health office and have started to hold free vaccinations for people in the surrounding areas.

For that, people should not be afraid to be vaccinated. Instead, they should help provide support to others to get vaccinated. With the mutual immunity that is formed, this virus can be faced and people can start adapting a new life.

Now, based on data from the Papua Province COVID-19 Task Force as of January 21, 2022, there are 21 people being treated or isolated due to exposure to COVID-19. The details are Jayapura City, one person, Mimika Regency five people, Merauke Regency three people, Jayapura Regency one person, Biak Regency two people, Jayawijaya Regency three people, Yapen Islands Regency five people and Paniai Regency one person.
