Regent of Jayawijaya, Jhon Richard Banua said that the implementation of mass vaccination in collaboration with the local government, the TNI, and the National Police did not contain any elements of coercion against the community.
This was emphasized by the Regent of Banua, after receiving information that the vehicle sweeping carried out by the Jayawijaya Police was coupled with checking that every driver and passenger had been vaccinated, which seemed to force the people affected by the sweeping.
"The issues that developed were that there was an element of coercion, I immediately saw that what the Resort Police did was in accordance with the health protocol," Banua told reporters while reviewing vaccinations at the Jayawijaya Police, Friday (7/1/2022).
According to him, there are stages of health checks for residents who want to be vaccinated by doctors, as well as examination of population documents, and if there are residents who are not ready then there is no coercion and vaccination has not been carried out.
"The protocol carried out by the Resort Police is in accordance with the procedure, so there are issues if there is coercion, I don't see that," he said.
In fact, according to the regent, there are people who come to the Polres asking to be vaccinated and they are served well, because this vaccination has many benefits, apart from maintaining immunity as well as for traveling outside Wamena.
“All these vaccines go through the Health Department. We also try to provide support by providing basic necessities for people who have been vaccinated,” he said.
In line with the Jayawijaya Police Chief, AKBP Muh. Safei AB said that the vaccination carried out by the police was not coercive.
"Because the Jayawijaya Police have issued a notification through the Wamena RRI, even using loudspeakers to put up warnings, people who will be vaccinated will be physically checked by a doctor, if they are interested they will be vaccinated immediately. There is no coercion," said the police chief.
According to him, the vehicle sweeping coupled with an invitation for vaccines is in accordance with central instructions, to ensure that residents have been vaccinated.
"We continue to carry out vaccinations, inviting all people in Jayawijaya in particular, to have immune resistance by participating in vaccinations. In addition, the use of this vaccine is to provide opportunities for people who will travel by plane without being complicated," he said.
He said that since the vaccination campaign was held by his staff, up to now there have been more than 42,000 or around 25 percent for the first vaccine, while for the second vaccine it has been around 40,997 or 24.42 percent.
