Calling Papuans Not Happy, Former OPM Commander Asks Governor Lukas to Work for the People

Former Commander of the Free Papua Organization (OPM) Victoria Headquarters in Keerom Regency, Lambert Pekikir asked Papua Governor Lukas Enembe to pay more attention and work fully to improve the welfare of the Papuan people.

Lambert considered that Lukas Enembe's statement which was viral on social media networks needed to be corrected. "As a state administrator, he (the governor) should not talk like that," said Lambert Pekikir, Wednesday (9/2/2022).

Lambert said that the obligation of state administrators is to serve the community. The Governor of Papua has the authority to do this. "So, if he says that (Papuans) are not happy, that means he has to work for a prosperous society," he said.

Video footage of Governor Lukas' remarks at an event in Jayapura with a duration of 1 minute 23 seconds related to 'Papuans are not happy', has been viral since Tuesday (8/2/2022). The show has been watched thousands of times.

Despite suggesting that Governor Lukas focus more on work, Lambert did not deny that the Governor's statement was reasonable. "His view, I agree, okay, please," he said.

But Lambert said, as an official, the governor should be responsive. "The question is, if he talks like that (Papuans are not happy), then who will work for the people later," he explained.

For Lambert, if Lukas had understood the situation where the Papuans were living below the standard of prosperity, Lukas should have immediately taken a policy or alternative to build the people's economy.

"If he has seen such conditions, that is what he must do," he said.

Luke's statement was like slapping water in a pan, splashing his own face. “Like one finger he blames people, while he himself is the leader in the area. As a Papuan, Lukas Enembe can say that, but as a governor, the question comes back to himself," said Lambert.

Lambert said Governor Lukas has a responsibility to make the community happy, not to enrich himself. "Don't just feel good at the leadership, but the subordinates or the community are difficult," he concluded.

Previously, a short broadcast on social networks showed Papua Governor Lukas Enembe's speech.

In his speech, Lukas said, Papuans are not happy. “All of Papua. On this earth, the people who are not happy are Papuans. You note it. People don't live in happiness."

He revealed, a number of areas 'crying' at this time. There are Intan Jaya, Puncak, Nduga, Bintang Mountains, including Maybrat “People don't live normally in their own country. It's not safe to live, we weren't born for that," he said.
