Hundreds of Residents Participate in Traditional Archery Competition

A total of 210 residents from 11 sub-districts and 4 villages in Merauke took part in a traditional archery competition which was held to commemorate the 120th anniversary of Merauke City at the Time Capsule Monument Square, Thursday (3/2). Merauke Regent Drs. Romanus Mbaraka, MT directly opened this traditional archery competition. The regent of Boven Digoel, Hengky Yaluwo, SH, seemed to be watching the competition, which was participated entirely by indigenous Papuans (OAP).
 
Field Coordinator of the Competitions and Competitions Section, Zadrak Rumbino, explained that this traditional archery competition was part of the activities carried out in the context of Merauke's 120th Anniversary. ''Participants who take part in this competition are from 11 villages and 4 villages namely Domande, Salor Kampung, Wasur Kampung and Nokenjerai,'' he said.

Merauke Regent Romanus Mbaraka, explained, in the context of the 120th Anniversary of Merauke City, a number of activities were carried out. ''But my directive to the committee, I really want the small community to participate all. Because sometimes if you do an activity, this native Papuan can't participate. That's why I try to choose activities that OAP can participate in,'' he said.

That's why, he explained, apart from traditional archery, there is also pop wrestling, a one-legged rowing competition. ''Hopefully tomorrow's healthy walk the community can join,''he hoped. In addition to the traditional competitions held, so that OAP can be fully involved in the 120th Anniversary of Merauke City.
 
According to him, there are also other activities held such as the regent's cup futsal which involves many young people who have futsal talents. Even the regent Romanus Mbaraka did not expect that the Regents Cup Futsal was not only participants from Merauke but also from outside Papua such as from Java.
