Mimika Education Office Continues to Strive to Improve the Quality of Education in the Mountains and Coasts
The Mimika Regency Education and Culture Office continues to strive to improve the quality of education in the mountains and coastal areas in the local area
Education in Mimika often gets the spotlight. The head of the Mimika Education Office, Jeni O. Usmany, said that his party would not remain silent.
He continued, they continue to make various efforts to improve the quality of education in Mimika, including in the coastal and mountainous areas.
According to him, until now the challenges of education in the area are very complex, especially geographical conditions.
Jeni said that now her party is trying to improve education, from infrastructure development in the form of school buildings and teachers' homes to the provision of school uniforms and stationery equipment.
"This is so that teaching and learning activities can run, so the teachers are placed," said Jeni to Tribun-Papua.com, Saturday (12/11/2022).
He said that there were still a shortage of teachers who had been appointed as Civil Servants (PNS), so it was necessary to recruit contract teachers and then be placed in public schools in remote areas, so that the complaints of no teachers were answered.
“Information that the teacher is not in the interior is not true because the teacher was delivered and picked up. We are only constrained by the mountain because there is no transportation on the mountain," he said.
"Aircraft belonging to the regional government, are not used for the needs of the Mimika community, specifically for teacher delivery," he said.
If the teacher's needs have been answered, then teaching and learning activities can run if there are students/students.
"One of the biggest obstacles faced, especially on the coast is socio-cultural, where people often leave the village to look for fish and always bring their children to participate," he said.
"To attract children to stay in the village so they don't go with their parents, the Mimika Education Office provides food that is distributed to each school," he said.
However, there are still children who go with their parents to fish so they don't go to school.
Jeni hopes that education will not only be delegated to the government but also that the role and support of parents is very important.
"Hopefully this problem will be resolved soon so that education in Mimika Regency can run well in coastal and mountainous areas," he added.
