Jayapura City Government is optimistic that Ramadan 2022 will have zero Covid-19 cases

The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura, Papua, is optimistic that during Ramadan 2022 or 1444 Hijriyah there will be zero Covid-19 cases because the number of infected residents is decreasing.

"This week, only 1-2 people have been exposed to it. There were no new cases reported yesterday. This shows that the handling of Covid-19 is getting better," said Deputy Mayor of Jayapura, Rustan Saru, at the Jayapura Mayor's Office, Wednesday 23/3/2022.

Rustan said, the holy month of Ramadan is only a few days away while the remaining 59 patients are being treated. While the average number of patients who recover in a day is more than 10 people, it is hoped that during Ramadan there will be no more Covid-19 patients being treated in hospitals or in centralized isolation at the Papua Education Quality Assurance Institute (LPMP).

"What we should be wary of are those [Covid-19 patients] who are undergoing self-isolation in their respective homes. This must be strictly maintained so that it does not go wild outside the house until it is completely declared cured from Covid-19, "said Rustan.

Rustan said, especially during the moment of the holy month of Ramadan where every mosque has many people carrying out congregational worship, gathering to perform tarawih prayers so that it is feared to become a new cluster of Covid-19 transmission.

"I ask the mosque management to carry out the [Health protocol] properly according to the government's instructions so that Muslims who are performing Tarawih prayers can worship solemnly," said Rustan.

Rustan hopes that citizens have awareness, concern for complying with health protocols during the Covid-19 pandemic and jointly take responsibility for fighting it in order to speed up breaking the spread.

"So that there will be no restrictions on the number of worshipers who are present at the mosque to carry out tarawih prayers and other worship services. This is all for the good of all of us, so the key is to obey the health procedures and vaccinations," said Rustan.

Rustan added that if during the tarawih prayer in the holy month of Ramadan there were residents who were exposed to it in one of the mosques, it would be confirmed that the tarawih prayer activity would be stopped to prevent its spread from spreading further.

"Once again I ask all of us to be of one heart to fight this pandemic so that our activities during the fasting month of Ramadan run safely, comfortably and smoothly without having to be afraid and worried about being exposed to Covid-19," said Rustan.

The head of the Jayapura City Health Office, Ni Nyoman Sri Antari, said that he had alerted health workers, both doctors and nurses, to form health service posts to anticipate residents who were exposed during the congregational tarawih prayers at the mosque.

"Health services are our priority so that the holy month of Ramadan goes well as well as the activities of residents who are worshiping at the mosque. I also hope that residents have awareness and concern to jointly break the chain of the spread of Covid-19," said Antari.
