Nine Victims of the Papuan KKB Attack Awarded the Telecommunications Fighters Honorary Charter



Nine employees of PT Palapa Timur Telematika (PTT), who were victims of the attack by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) while carrying out the task of maintaining Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure in Puncak Regency, Papua Province, were awarded the Indonesian Telecommunications Fighters honorary certificate by the Ministry of Communications. and Informatics (Kominfo).

The Minister of Communication and Information (Mnekominfo), Johnny G Plate, said that the eight people who died and one survivor had carried out the noble task of building ICT infrastructure, in order to catch up and be equal with other nations.

"For the extraordinary tasks they have given and dedicated to the nation and society, the government gives an award in the form of an honorary charter for the Indonesian Telecommunications Fighters," said the Minister of Communications and Informatics at the award ceremony for nine telecommunications fighters which was carried out in a hybrid manner on Thursday (17/3). /2022).

The nine victims were Bona Simanullang (Dep FoP PTT), Billy Garibaldi (Dept NOC PTT), Syahril Nurdiansyah (Company Contractor Employee), Eko Septiansyah (Company Contractor Employee), Ibo (Company Contractor Employee), Jamaludin (Company Contractor Employee), and Bebi Tabuni (Company Contractor Employee), and Nelson Sarira (survivor).

According to the Minister of Communication and Information, Johnny, the award was given so that their services and sacrifices in developing digital connectivity infrastructure to remote areas of our country can always be remembered and become an example for all of us.

The Minister of Communication and Informatics, Johnny, expressed his deep condolences and strongly condemned the deaths of Indonesian telecommunications warriors because they did not reflect a sense of pro-humanity and the value of kinship as a nation.

"As the Minister of Communications and Informatics, I express my deepest condolences and strongly condemn acts of violence that have an impact on death or murder that occur because these actions do not reflect humanity at all, do not show the values of our kinship as a nation," he said.

To anticipate the occurrence of similar incidents, he continued, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics encourages law enforcement and security restoration efforts by the authorities so that the situation can return to conducive.

The development of digital infrastructure, as a prerequisite for accelerating national digital transformation, will certainly continue to be carried out in the spirit of inclusiveness and equity without neglecting the safety aspect and the principle of benefit for all Indonesian people.

"I would like to thank all my friends, government apparatus, TNI, Polri, Regional Government, private partners who have carried out diligently and responsibly in the context of evacuating victims and survivors," he said.
