For the sake of Jayapura Development, Mayor of Benhur Supports the Expansion in Papua
Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tomi Mano supports the division of Papua. According to him, the expansion of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) can bring services closer to the local community.
Benhur considered that the division of Papua must be determined, considering the large number of Papuans and the farthest isolated areas, so that new autonomous regions must be realized immediately.
"I support the expansion of Papua, for equitable distribution of development and community welfare, as well as shortening the span of control of services to the community," he said while receiving a Working Visit from Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives in Jayapura some time ago.
On the other hand, the formation of new autonomous regions or the expansion of Papua, said Benhur, is also expected to encourage the regions that are divided into more advanced economies, education and health.
"With the new autonomous regions, the division of territory is even, so that the provinces can compete to develop their respective regions, not just piling up on the provincial capital in Papua," added Benhur.
Benhur added that Jayapura as the capital of Papua Province has a population of 362,998 people and is very heterogeneous. He hopes that the expansion will ease Jayapura's burden.
"The granting of Special Autonomy funds to the City of Jayapura is very small, we find it difficult to divide it into 5 major programs such as education, health, infrastructure, economy and others, so with our vision to build from village to city and we will use up this Special Autonomy fund to serve a very heterogeneous society in Jayapura City within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia," said Benhur.
Because of these positive impacts, Benhur hopes that the new autonomous region plan can be realized soon with the formation of three new provinces, namely Central Papua, South Papua and Central Highlands Papua.
Regarding the rejection from some Papuan people, Benhur considers it a normal thing in a democratic country.
However, Benhur stressed, the final decision rests with the central government. He also believes that whatever decisions the Center makes must be based on the desire to make Papua progress and prosper.
"Therefore I invite all of us Papuan people to support the new autonomous regions, because the central government's policy is not to make the people miserable, but how to advance the people so that they advance in all fields, be it government, development and community development. support the central government's policy," said Benhur.
