KSP Claims Government Accommodates Aspirations Related to Papua New Guinea
Deputy V Chief of Presidential Staff of the Republic of Indonesia Jaleswari Pramodhawardani said the government would accommodate the aspirations and participation of all parties related to the formation of the New Autonomous Region (DOB) Papua. He said the process of discussing the Papua New Guinea was currently underway.
He claimed that the Papuan people were also involved in providing input in order to strengthen the content of the Papua New Guinea so that it became better. “The government is very open to the aspirations and participation of all parties. The formation of the Papua New Guinea is a new system and design to build a prosperous and holistic Papua that is holistic and sustainable," said Jaleswari, quoted from the KSP press release, Saturday (21/5/2022).
Jaleswari emphasized that the formation of the Papua New Guinea was a strategic issue for the government to address the problem of poverty, accelerate the development of people's welfare, and development in the Papua region. Namely, by shortening the reach of public services, accelerating the development of health and education, cutting costs, and resolving difficulties in accessing public services, both internal and external to Papua.
In the current situation, explained Jaleswari, Papua is trapped in a big cycle of poverty. According to him, this situation cannot be changed unless a special strategy is implemented, namely refocusing on the development of growth centers, including bringing public service centers closer together.
Jaleswari gave an example of the difficulties faced by the people of mountainous areas when managing administration. They have to make long journeys by air transportation which is difficult and expensive because the public service center is at the provincial capital level.
"As a result, isolation is created, especially with a very large area and a small population," he said.
Therefore, continued Jaleswari, there needs to be a refocusing of the development of growth centers, including bringing public service centers closer to residential centers through the addition of service centers.
"With the addition of a provincial capital city, there will be additional hospitals, schools and other service units at provincial levels. So that it can reduce costs, and the development budget is not used up for expensive transportation, "explained Jaleswari.
As is known, the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR has passed three drafts of the Bill (RUU) on the Establishment of New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in Papua Province. Namely, the Bill for the Establishment of the Province of South Papua, the Bill for the Establishment of the Province of Central Papua, and the Bill for the Establishment of the Province of the Central Mountains. In which the President has conveyed the Surpres to the DPR RI to start the DIM discussion.
The government also accepts the aspirations of the people, which are still being discussed by the Legislative Council of the Republic of Indonesia regarding the proposals for the new autonomous regions for the islands of North Papua and the new autonomous regions of Southwest Papua.
