Papua Provincial Government Prepares Paniai Coffee at G20 Bali

The Papuan Provincial Government (Pemprov) through the Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, local workforce has prepared Paniai Coffee as a superior product to be exhibited at the G20 chairmanship/presidency in Nusa Dua, Bali.

Head of the Cooperatives, MSMEs and Papuan Manpower Office, Omah Laduani Ladamay, told Antara in Jayapura, Monday, that he had held a meeting with the Regent of Paniai Meky Nawipa regarding the readiness of Paniai Coffee.

"The Papuan government has the task of marketing Papuan products, namely Papuan coffee and several other superior products," he said.

According to Laduani, Papuan coffee has a unique taste and aroma, located at an altitude that is not shared by other regions where the average cultivation process is 1,300-2,000 meters above sea level (asl) so it has its own characteristics.

"We estimate that we will prepare a container of Paniai Coffee by bringing several communities that have good quality and quantity," he said.

He explained that the marketing itself will start in June, in Nusa Dua Bali, where they will sell other superior Papuan products until the peak day of the G20 Summit in November.

"The central government pays for the location, while we only prepare the goods, so we have formed a production team and have started to identify other products," he said.

He added that coffee farmers in Paniai use seeds from the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, resulting in a mild taste with a subtle acidity, floral aroma, and almost no bitterness in every sip of coffee.
