Residents of Tolikara Regency enjoy 24-hour electricity
Residents of Tolikara Regency, Papua Province, can now enjoy 24 hours of electricity, following the transfer of management of the electricity system in the area from the local government (Pemda) to the local State Electricity Company (PLN).
"After 18 years of waiting, now people can fully enjoy electricity," said Tolikara Regent Usman G. Wanimbo in a press release in Jayapura, Thursday.
According to Usman, PLN brings new enthusiasm because previously several companies did not want to enter to invest before proper electricity was available and of course this would make Tolikara left behind.
"So, there is an increase in operating hours so that 1,013 customers in the Karubaga District can feel it," he said.
He explained that the customers in Karubaga District are spread out in Kolengger, Kulokname, Ampera, Kogimagi, Muara, Kimibur, Inns, Elsadai, Ebenhaezer, Molera and Nalorini villages and there is also Wenam District which consists of Igari and Banggeri villages.
"Previously the electricity system in the area was managed and operated directly by the local government for 12 hours every day," he said.
With the disruption to operations that occurred, he continued, finally the local government decided to move the generator to a new location and hand over the management and maintenance of the machine to PLN.
Meanwhile, a resident in the Karubaga District, Nahum Wandik, said that 24 hour electricity would bring many benefits, one of which could improve the family's economy.
