BPBD presents Smart method to prevent West Papua disaster

The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of West Papua Province presents the Smart method to prevent disasters from occurring in all districts and cities.
 
Head of West Papua BPBD Derek Ampnir, in Manokwari, Sunday, said Smart is a method with the main point of educating the community in preventing disasters starting from oneself.
 
"Remember that in dealing with disasters in this world, the first one who can help is yourself. After that, other people will," he said.
 
Smart, said Derek, is in the form of a forum for community communication so that they can know the initial steps that can be taken when facing a disaster.
 
He said the disasters that occurred in West Papua were urban or anthropogenic disasters. The cities in question are Manokwari Regency and Sorong City.
 
He said that so far, people in West Papua still do not understand and realize the importance of preventing disasters, one of which is flooding. Floods have the potential to occur throughout West Papua.

"We form this forum so that people can measure the possibility of dealing with disasters," he said.
 
He reminded that disaster is not an event that can be measured and sometimes happens suddenly. In addition to flooding, other disasters that are prone to earthquakes are earthquakes.
 
Derek stated that development in West Papua in the future is still under threat of disaster considering global climate change.
 
"It's okay if the construction is carried out, but we hope that it can be measured and structured in order to prevent disasters from happening," he said.
