Journalists and literacy activists hope that Papuan students are wise in using social media

Journalists and Information and Technology (IT) literacy activists hope that through the Road To Festival of Nusantara Student Journalists in Papua, high school students can wisely use social media (Medsos) properly and correctly, so that they can support the future of local young people.
 
Deputy Head of the Papuan Task Force Department for the Catholic Youth Central Committee, Roberthus Yewen in a press release in Jayapura, Thursday, said the road to the Nusantara Student Journalist Festival in Papua was a collaborative activity of various student and youth organizations and communities in Indonesia.
 
"Journalists and IT literacy activists greet schools, apart from providing education on the use of social media, we also teach journalists how to work in the field," he said.
 
According to Roberthus, this activity is purely a collaboration between journalists, digital literacy activists, then communities and other student and youth organizations.
 
"In this activity, students also get the opportunity to learn directly to become journalists so that in the future this young generation can be involved in publishing activities at their school through the school's website and other media," he said.
 
Meanwhile, the Principal of SMA Santo Antonius Padua, Marcelina M. Olla, said that these students have different talents and some of them may have the potential to become journalists.
 
"We appreciate and hope that in the future activities like this will continue so that the younger generation is smarter in filtering information," he said.
