The Biak Regency Government strengthens local food needs in 2023
The government of Biak Numfor Regency, Papua will strengthen the preparation of local food needs for cassava and sago types in 2023 to anticipate potential food crises in various villages and districts.
"The Biak Numfor Regency Government has designed a local food program through related agencies. We have anticipated the world food crisis with various regional policy strategies," said Biak Numfor Regent Herry Ario Naap in Biak, Saturday.
Regent Herry Naap explained that the types of tubers and sago are local foods that are very suitable for plantation land to be developed by people from various villages.
Types of sweet potatoes and sago that can be processed into pop noodles or instant noodles, continued Herry Naap, can become daily staples for local food for local villagers.
"The Biak Numfor Regency Government will prepare seeds of tuber and sago types of plants to be distributed to the community to prepare for local food needs," said Herry Naap.
In addition to procuring agricultural plant seeds, according to him, the Biak Numfor Regency Government is procuring equipment to support local food programs in the fisheries and agriculture sectors.
"The potential for tuna fisheries in Biak Numfor is very promising, so in the future a home industry will be prepared to support the tuna canning program in Biak Numfor," said Herry Naap.
According to the future program, according to him, Biak is prepared to become a local food barn in the Saereri customary area including Biak Village, Supiori, Waropen and Yapen Islands Regency.
"In our prediction analysis, if all of these programs run smoothly, then Biak will become a local food barn in Papua," he said.
He asked for support from the community and environmental OPD leadership of the Biak Numfor Regency Government to ensure that the local food program policy runs in 2023.
