Expansion of the Province of South Papua Will Soon Be Realized

Papua Indonesia is unlikely to develop quickly if there are only two provinces, for which the South Papua Province Pemekaran Team formed a Working Group working group to accelerate the formation of the province. There are six working groups formed from the representation of four districts, namely Merauke, Asmat, Mappi, and Boven Digoel.

The six working groups are the Mobilizing Working Group, Cooperation Working Group, Study Working Group, Legal Working Group, Media Communication Working Group, and Political Communication Working Group. PPS Team Leader Thomas Eppe Safanpo said the formed working group team would later complete the basic and administrative requirements documents, then the working group would express their aspirations, and appeal to the Governor of Papua, the DPRP, and the Papuan People's Assembly for approval of pemekaran.

"Early April, we will meet the governor, DPRP and MRP to request the approval of PPS," said Thomas who is also the Deputy Regent of Asmat, Tuesday (2/25/2020).

Thomas added that his party would also cooperate with tertiary institutions to conduct studies on the expansion of PPS. In this case, including technical and administrative matters that must be completed in order to complete the required documents required for the division.

"We have not yet agreed on which universities are appointed, but in the context of empowering local institutions, we might work together with the University of Musamus and Uncen. Also the possibility of UGM or UI," said Thomas.

On March 28, 2020, a secretariat and joint declaration from community leaders and traditional leaders from four districts will be inaugurated to support the acceleration of PPS. Thomas hopes that the central government can provide certainty about the expansion of PPS, because this is a long-standing public aspiration.
