The seriousness of the Indonesian Government in development in Papua and West Papua

The government pays serious attention to development in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua by increasing synergy between institutions. Then the approach that is believed to be able to reduce the number of violations of the law will be strengthened through the renewal of Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 9 of 2017 concerning the Acceleration of Welfare Development in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.

"We want to integrate all the programs for development in Papua to be integrated. There used to be different groups. One here is the Papua desk at Polhukuam and Bappenas there is also Presidential Instruction 9 so we will make one more comprehensive," said the Coordinating Minister for the Field Political Law and Security, Mahfud MD, Jakarta, Friday (28/2).

According to him, the handling of development in the Earth of Paradise will be carried out more comprehensively. There is no longer any handling of defense and security on its own because the economic development and welfare sectors must go together.

He said the Papuan desk team formed by Kemenkopolhukam had been summoned to discuss this issue. In the near future merging with a similar team under Bappenas will be carried out soon so that the entire program runs comprehensively.

Previously, he also said the government prepared legal instruments related to the handling of Papua. That is in the form of a more comprehensive handling of Papua Inpres continuation of Inpres Number 9 of 2017 concerning the Acceleration of Welfare Development in the Provinces of Papua and West Papua.

The Presidential Instruction, which expired last year, will contain guidelines for handling development in the two easternmost provinces and was carried out by Bappenas and Kemenkopolhukam teams. That way the economic development and social welfare sectors will be combined with the defense and security team.

This step is believed to have a faster impact on efforts to improve prosperity on the Earth of Paradise. Then the problem of violation of the law can be resolved as a subsequent impact.
