Papua Provincial Government Closes Flight and Cruise line access in the next 14 days

Corona virus emergency in Bumi Cenderawasih, the Provincial Government of Papua has closed access to flights and shipping lines starting Thursday (3/26/2020) until Thursday (4/4/2020). Emergency alert status was applied in the region, since Tuesday (03/17/2020).

"Access of people or passengers either by sea or air is temporarily closed, in order to prevent the spread of the corona virus in Papua. However, transportation of goods and food will still be opened, "said Papua Governor Lukas Enembe.

The closure is carried out for the next 14 days and will be extended if there is an increase in cases. Governor Enembe ensured that there was no lockdown, but only social restrictions. That also applies to PT. Pelni, who will not be allowed down. Only goods are allowed to get off at airports and ports in Papua.

The closure of the flight and shipping lines to Papua was agreed at the Covid-19 handling and prevention meeting held by Governor Lukas Enembe and other regional leaders. During the meeting a number of tactical steps were taken to be taken by the Papua Provincial Government in dealing with the global pandemic outbreak.

One of the decisions taken was the closure of flight routes and shipping of passenger ships at the entrances of the Papua region, namely airports, seaports and state land border crossings (PLBN). The local government limits foreigners (foreigners) who will enter Papua.

Another decision, the Papua Provincial Government asked the community to stay at home so that the spread of Covid-19 could be suppressed. Residents are expected to take the initiative to carry out independent quarantine, or limit movement outside the home.

During the period of corona treatment and prevention, the Papua Provincial Government ensured logistics deliveries for medical purposes, including medical personnel, were fulfilled. This is so that medical personnel who handle corona patients remain safe.
