PON Preparation Continues Despite Corona Virus

Preparations for the XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua are still ongoing, even though the outbreak of the Corona or Covid-19 virus has spread throughout most of Indonesia.

Deputy Chairperson of the KONI Center, Maj. Gen. TNI. Purn Suwarno hoped that the corona virus could pass quickly and not interfere with the preparation of major national activities such as PON.

However, KONI will follow government policies. "Later on government policies such as the matter of Indonesian sports activities related to this virus," Suwarno told reporters in Jayapura, Sunday (3/15/2020).

A similar sentiment was also conveyed by PB PON Papua Daily Chairperson, Yusuf Yambe Yabdi, that the preparation of the PON was still carried out according to plan, even though at this time the world sporting party was postponed due to the corona virus outbreak.

"We continue to work as we can, if the government orders that the PON readiness phase be stopped temporarily, of course we will follow it," he explained.

Yusuf said, the PON stage that was the focus of attention to be completed this week was to calculate the accommodation needs of the Organizing Committee (Panpel), and would be followed by other fields and elements.

So, if we have gotten the panelists' accommodation data, then the contingent service is increasingly clear, because the contingent data is taken from the IT field, so PB PON has already opened registration for sports.

Meanwhile, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) began to instruct the entire ranks until the government made a policy related to the handling of the corona virus (COVID-19). Jokowi requested that direct interaction be reduced.

"With the current conditions, it's time for us to work from home, learn from home, worship at home, it's time to work together to help and unite with one another, mutual cooperation," Jokowi said through a video broadcast live on the Presidential Secretariat at the Bogor Presidential Palace , West Java, Sunday (3/15/2020).
