PUPR Commitment Completes 4 Venues in Papua for PON XX Amid the Corona Virus Pandemic

The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) remains committed to completing the stage of building a sports arena specifically for XX National Sports Week (PON) in Papua 2020.

Quoted from the Ministry of Communication and Information, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the construction of 4 sports venues in Papua will continue amid the corona virus pandemic.

"Infrastructure development in order to support PON XX 2020 in Papua must be considered in detail starting from the design stage, the development stage to the supervision stage," he said.

4 construction of the venue includes the aquatic venue and Istora Papua Bangkit in the Kampung Harapan sports area, East Sentani District and the cricket venue as well as the hockey field in the Doyo Baru Sports Complex area, in Waibu District.

Until March 26, 2020, Istora Bangkit Papua's physical development process had reached 82.95 percent, aquatic venues had reached 80.87 percent, cricket venues and hocky fields had reached 92.14 percent.

Meanwhile Head of the Center for Education, Sports and Market Infrastructure Development Facilities at the Directorate General of Cipta Karya Iwan Suprijanto said the Governor of Papua, a member of the Communication Forum for Regional Leaders, Regents and Mayors and related officials had agreed to the closure of airports and ports in Papua in an effort to stop the spread to his territory.

"This will certainly affect the implementation of the construction of the PON venue because there will be difficulties in the delivery of materials outside the Papua region, the addition of manpower and bringing in certification experts. But the Ministry of Public Works and Housing continues to move in the context of completing the country's task to build the Papu PON venue on time, "said Iwan.
