Papua extends school holidays until April 13, 2020

The Papua Provincial Education, Library and Archive Service issued a circular on April 2 about the school holiday being extended to April 13, 2020 due to a corona virus outbreak that causes COVID-19.

"By observing the circular of the Governor and the meeting between the Governor and the Papua Provincial Forkopimda and the Regents / Mayors of Papua, the period of study at home which was previously extended to April 9 is extended to April 13," said Head of the Papua Province DPPAD, Christian Sohilait, in Jayapura, Friday (3/4/2020).

He said the decision was also requested during this time that principals, teachers, and all school residents were prohibited from traveling outside Papua or receiving guests from outside Papua for any reason.

He continued all school residents were also forbidden to visit public places such as malls, shopping centers, cinemas, tourist attractions, and others and did not come to the crowd and gather people.

"If there are school principals, teachers, and school residents who violate it will be given sanctions in accordance with applicable regulations," he said.

He also asked principals and teachers to help students in online learning activities, making sure students were truly at home. "We also ask high school and vocational school principals to immediately reschedule the teaching and learning process until April 14," he said.

He added that he hoped students would obey the rules issued by the government related to preventing this deadly virus to avoid it.
