The shooting action by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) or the Free Papua Movement (OPM) again occurred in Mile 62 of the PT Freeport Indonesia mining road area, Tembagapura District, Mimika Regency, Papua.
The incident resulted in one person injured due to being hit by a shot in the abdomen and neck.
The victim is known as Sakeus (35) who is a Mimika resident, a non-Freeport employee.
Chronology of the incident, at around 6:00 CET, the sound of a barrage of weapons at Mile 62 was heard by combined personnel at Mile 59 at the height of the tower and Mile 61 to the right of the elephant enclosure, then reported to Pos Mile 60.
Head of Papua Police Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Pol Ahmad Musthofa Kamal, said after members heard gunfire then joint personnel at Mile 60.2 reported to Mile 60 Post by telephone that there was a sound of gunfire in MP 62 and then sent documentation that someone was lying on the ground under Post Mile 62 above the mine road.
"At 08.00 CET the joint personnel along with the ambulance headed to the location of the incident and then carried out relief for the Sakeus victims of non-Freeport employees," Kamal said, Thursday, May 22, 2020.
Kamal explained the victim had been evacuated to Tembagapura Hospital for treatment.
"The joint military apparatus, the National Police have pursued the Armed Criminal Group," he said.
Kamal said that currently the victim had received medical treatment at Tembagapura Hospital.
Meanwhile, joint military and police personnel are still pursuing the Armed Criminal Group who carried out the shooting. For post-incident situations it is said to be safe and conducive.
