Fencing Aceh Aims One Gold in PON Papua 2021

All Indonesia Fencing Association (IKASI) Aceh is targeting one gold medal at the National Sports Week (PON) held in Papua Province in 2021.

IKASI Aceh Chair M Nasir Syamaun said the target of one gold medal was in line with the national championship which was also the Pre-PON in Semarang in 2019.

"We are targeting one gold in the PON. To meet that target, we are collaborating with national coach Fathullah who has trained Indonesian athletes at the SEA Games," said M Nasir Syamaun.

M Nasir said that currently eight fencing athletes were undergoing intensive training. The training will take place centrally at GOR KONI until next December.

The eight athletes namely Erwan Tona, Zaidil Almuqaddim, and Yudi Anggara Putra for men's individual florist numbers, and Ody Tasmara for individual men's degen.

While Saidi Nanda Mulkan and Dhimas Mahendra for the men's personal number sabel number. As well as Elvanda Cantika Putri and Ummi Nadra for women's personal saber.

Previously, the eight athletes underwent decentralization training independently in their respective places. Decentralization training takes place from February to mid-June 2020.

M Nasir Syamaun said that although the COVID-19 pandemic was still in progress, the fencing training camp was not hampered. However, the problem is the trial program.

Previously, said M Nasir, his party planned to hold a trial in South Korea. However, the COVID-19 pandemic was not only in Indonesia, but almost all over the world, the trial had to be canceled.

"However, we will try to hold an internal trial with former national fencing athletes in Aceh. This trial will be a measure of the extent to which the athlete's development will be dispatched to PON in Papua Province," said M Nasir Syamaun.
