Approaching August 17, Papua Provincial Government Asked Residents to Post a Red and White Flag

Ahead of the commemoration of Indonesia's independence day on August 17, 2020, the Papua Provincial Government asks its citizens to decorate their environment with banners and red and white flags on August 1 - 31, 2020. Citizens are also asked to stop all their activities during the commemoration of the seconds of the Indonesian proclamation on August 17 later.

The appeal was conveyed by the Assistant for the Economy and Welfare of the Papuan People as well as the Acting Regional Secretary for Papua, Muhammad Musa'ad in Jayapura, Wednesday (12/8/2020). He asked for various ornaments, banners, and red and white flags to be installed in the neighborhood where residents live.

Regarding the commemoration of the seconds of the proclamation, Muhammad Musa'ad stated that the commemoration of the seconds of the proclamation of Indonesia in Papua took place on 17 August 2020 at 12:17 WP, and lasted for three minutes.

"During the seconds of the proclamation, every citizen was asked to stop all activities and stand tall. That is a form of our appreciation for the struggles of the heroes, ”said Musa'ad.

"This also applies to every government and private agency. So, wherever we are, both at home and on the road, please stop the car, get out of the car and take a perfect attitude ready when the seconds of the proclamation are made nationally, "he continued.

According to him, every Regional Apparatus Organization (OPD) is required to send employees to attend the August 17 2020 flag ceremony which will be held in the courtyard of the Papua Governor's Office.

"Those who are obliged to attend the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, OPD leaders, expert staff and functional officials. Meanwhile, the other ASNs are limited in number, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, ”said Musa'ad.

Based on the observation, most of the offices, shops and houses of residents have installed various red and white ornaments, and raised flags to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Indonesian Independence.

"This is a must that we do every year. I don't think it would be considered strange if we respect the flag and take a perfect attitude when the seconds of the proclamation go off, ”said Tamsul, a resident of the Head of 2 Entrop, Jayapura City.
