The Police ensure that the security of PON Papua can be controlled

The National Police's leadership ensures that security in Papua can be controlled so that the agenda for the activities of the National Sports Week (PON) in October 2021 will continue as planned.

"PON is still running, it has been planned that all kinds of things are still running," said the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the National Police's Public Relations Division, Brigadier General Pol Rusdi Hartono, when confirmed in Jakarta, Tuesday.

Rusdi acknowledged that the current situation in Papua has been disturbed by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB), but everything is handled by the Polda Papau together with the Nemangkawi Operation Task Force.

"Everything has been handled by the Polda Papua there, there is the Nemangkawi Task Force, there is also the TNI together how can Papua be conducive," said Rusdi.

According to Rusdi, the security forces in Papua continue to take steps to keep Indonesia's easternmost province conducive.

He added that the TNI and Polri were preparing a security plan so that PON Papua would continue to run.

"According to the plan for October PON will continue to run," said Rusdi.

The implementation of PON XX Papua is planned to take place from 2 to 15 October 2021. This four-year sporting party was originally scheduled to take place in 2020, but was postponed until 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the last two weeks, the calmness of Papua in preparing itself to host the XX PON has been disturbed by acts of violence, killings and burning of educational facilities so that people's houses were carried out by KKB in the interior of Papua such as in Beoga and Ilaga, Puncak Regency, Intan Jaya.
