Disdik Papua Claims 4,000 Teachers Have Been Injected With Vaccines
The Provincial Education, Libraries and Archives Office of Papua Province claims as many as 4,000 teachers have been injected with the covid-19 vaccine. In total there are 22 thousand teachers in the region.
Head of the Papua Province Education, Libraries and Archives Office Christian Sohilait said the 4,000 teachers came from three districts and one city who had reported.
"The four regions are Jayapura, Mimika and Merauke cities and districts," Christian said in Jayapura, Thursday, April 22, 2021.
According to Christian, other districts in Papua have not yet reported to him about how many teachers have been vaccinated. "However, we continue to fully encourage teachers to be vaccinated immediately considering the teaching and learning process in Papua will soon take place," he said.
He explained that at a meeting with the Minister of Health, some time ago, his party specifically requested that teachers and other educators be prioritized to be vaccinated immediately. The target is that Papua can hold limited face-to-face learning (PTM) starting next June.
"Getting vaccinated first will certainly greatly help teachers and educators to be able to interact with students and avoid the risk of spreading covid-19," he said.
He does not want the case in India to occur in Papua. He hopes that the Covid-19 vaccine can be prioritized for teachers and educators in Papua.
