KONI Papua affirms that XX PON must continue to be held

The XX National Sports Week (PON) only has five months left. Papua Province as the host has been asked to prepare itself even though it has recently been hit by various obstacles.

The Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Papua Province, has firmly said that the XX PON event in the Land of Papua must be held, whatever the reason. KONI itself has confirmed the readiness of its athletes.

The General Secretary of KONI Papua, Kenius Kogoya, emphasized that Papua as the host is ready and not ready to be prepared to hold the XX PON event, considering that the remaining time is increasingly narrow.

"As the host, we are ready or not ready to be ready, because PON in Papua is a new history and civilization, the revival of sports in the eastern horizon of Indonesia," Kenius pressed to reporters recently.

"That is why we are preparing talented and outstanding athletes to make Papua proud, but also for other prestigious events. It is evident that our archery athletes at Pelatnas will be sent to the Olympics. We have prepared our athletes for more than two years and this time it is quite a long time due to the delay of a year PON which costs a lot of money, "he added.

Kenius said, since more than two years preparing athletes, there have been approximately 800 athletes and 300 officials with a total of 1,102 people who have been prepared by KONI Papua to host the XX PON.

Now, KONI Papua still hopes that a number of PON XX venues that have been completed can be immediately used by Papuan athletes who are finalizing their preparations.

"We are grateful that the Governor and Deputy Governor have helped prepare our athletes. Regarding the venues that are being prepared by PU and Disorda or the government, we hope it will be three or four months before the PON is ready to be used so that our athletes will not be strangers at home, ”explained Kenius.

The reason is, until now, Kenius admits that Papuan athletes are still having trouble finding a training place or holding training camps (TC).

“Most of our athletes are doing TC outside due to limited venues for training. It looks simple but our athletes have not been able to exercise optimally, "he said.

Kenius added that his party had already got a shadow of the core Papuan contingent for PON XX. However, the new core contingent will be released in July.

"The core contingent is already there, just take over from the KONI to the contingent and that in early July there will be a submission of a decree from the contingent or the head of the contingent, then the general chairman will hand it over and stay in take over until we go to PON XX later," he explained.

KONI Papua also asked PT Telkom and the Government to immediately solve the problem of the internet network that was cut off since two weeks ago, because it made it a little difficult for Papua in preparing the XX PON.

"With the current situation, for almost a week we were also disturbed by the disconnected internet connection, this is very difficult and hopefully it will not hinder all preparations for PON because it is getting closer. Hopefully it will be resolved quickly by PT Telkom and there will also be attention from the Government, "he concluded.

Meanwhile, the water skiing sport that does not participate in the XX National Sports Week (PON) event, next October, has called for support for the success of this grand sporting event in Indonesia.

The head of the Papua water skiing provincial government, FX Mote, said that the water skiing sport felt compelled to participate in the success of the XX PON event, in which Papua Province will act as host for the first time.

"" In our busy schedules, each of us is also preparing to prepare for the XX PON. So we don't participate in a number of sports that are included in this XX PON, but we as one of the sports in Papua feel we have an interest in supporting the implementation of PON XX well in Papua, "said Mote.

He explained, to contribute to the success of PON XX in the Land of Papua, his party has prepared a special agenda. Their athletes will perform at the XX PON in the Jayapura sea.

"The proof of our success will be carrying out activities that support PON XX by doing some water skiing attractions on the beaches of Cibery and Jayapura, or around the sea which are not used as PON venues," he said.
