XX PON in Papua Must Be a Momentum for Awakening from the Covid-19 Pandemic

The XX Indonesia National Sports Week (PON) in Papua must be a momentum and a symbol of the awakening of the Indonesian people from the Covid-19 pandemic. The implementation of the largest multi-event sporting event in Indonesia can also show that in such conditions there is still enthusiasm for advancing the national sport. After being delayed, PON XX 2021 is also confirmed to be held in Papua Province.

This determination emerged in a meeting between the Chairman of the Indonesian National Sports Committee (KONI), Lt. Gen. TNI Purn Marciano Norman, and Communications Expert and National Motivator Dr. Aqua Dwipayana at the Central KONI Office, Jakarta, last Thursday (20/5/2021).

On this occasion, Dr Aqua, who received the mandate from Marciano to become an Expert Staff to the Chairperson of the Central KONI for Public Communication, stated that he was pleased to fully assist in the success of PON XX Papua. Former journalists in many major media, are ready to participate both in terms of communication and motivation.

On this Sunday night (23/5/2021) Dr Aqua will go to Papua. The main agenda is Sharing Communication and Motivation with dozens of participants in the Community Technical Meeting (Rakernis) of the Papua Region Ministry of Law and Human Rights (HAM). Head of the Regional Office, Anthonius Mathius Ayorbaba, who invited the member of the Expert Council of the Communication Scholar Association (ISKI).

Related to that, Dr Aqua has informed Marciano. The father of Alira Vania Putri Dwipayana and Savero Karamiveta Dwipayana, if they get an assignment from Marciano, is ready to carry it out.

“I was in Papua for several days. The main agenda is Sharing Communication and Motivation at the Papua Regional Ministry of Law and Human Rights Office. Beyond that, if there is an assignment from Mr. Marciano, I am ready to carry it out, "said Dr Aqua in his delivery to Marciano.

In the meeting and discussion for more than two hours, Marciano, who is the former Head of the National Intelligence Agency (BIN), outlined various aspects of the preparation for the implementation of PON XX in Papua. His staff at the Central KONI intensely coordinated with the host to make the event a success.

On the other hand, Dr Aqua, who is Marciano's best friend, listened to everything that was said. He also appreciated several things including the progress of the Central KONI after being led by Marciano.

"Right now there is a team from the Central KONI who are in Papua. They intensively held meetings with the committee in Papua to discuss various matters related to the successful implementation of the XX PON in the province, "explained Marciano.

Optimist for Success
As is known, PON XX Papua was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia. The Papuan government has difficulty completing physical work on the venue and procurement of equipment due to restrictions from outside countries.

The XX Papua PON was originally planned to take place on 20 October-2 November 2020. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and several other things, the implementation had to be postponed to 2 to 15 October 2021.

The plan is for the upcoming PON to be held in four regions, namely Jayapura, Jayapura Regency, Timika, and Merauke. PON will compete in 37 sports and will be attended by 9,703 athletes and 9,663 officials.

On Wednesday (7/4/2021), Marciano and his staff both at Central KONI and KONI 33 provinces minus East Nusa Tenggara, which had recently been hit by a natural disaster, attended the opening of the Chef de Mission Meeting II PON XX at the Suni Lake Sentani Hotel, Jayapura Regency, Papua. .

Papua Governor Lukas Enembe along with Forkompimda officials such as Jayapura Mayor Benhur Tommi Mano, Jayapura Regent Mathius Awoitauw, and Bank Indonesia Representative Head for Papua Province Naek Tigor Sinaga also attended the event.

The head of the XX PON Grand Committee, Yunus Wonda and his team in the three-day meeting explained to all those present about the readiness of each field. In essence, Papua province is very ready to host XX PON.

"The last time I went to Papua in early April 2021, during the Chef de Mission PON XX meeting which was held for the second time, I and my friends from Central and Regional KONI received reports that the Papuan government was very ready to carry out this four-year national sporting activity. After attending the meeting and seeing directly in the field, Marciano was optimistic that the XX Papua PON would be a success. He appreciated Papua Governor Lukas Enembe and his staff for working hard to prepare for the event.
