Gebyar PON Papua will apply the COVID-19 health protocol

The celebration of the National Sports Week or XX Papua PON will be held at the Papua Governor's Office. Gebyar PON XX Papua will take place by implementing the COVID-19 health protocol.

The daily chairman of the Papua XX PON PON Large Committee, Yunus Wonda, said that his party had received a letter from the Papua Regional Police stating that Gebyar PON could not light fireworks. The Papua Regional Police also stated that the number of people who could enter the Gebyar PON arena was limited to 400-500 people.

"Later, the committee will regulate the flow of visitors who will enter the Governor's Office page. This means that people will enter alternately, because there is no crowd [allowed]. We will hold the event from morning to night,” said Yunus Wonda in Jayapura.

He emphasized that everyone who wants to enjoy music, dances and typical Papuan culinary offerings at the Gebyar PON arena must be in good health and must wear a mask. “We are trying as much as possible [so that] there are no new clusters of COVID-19. The point is, everyone who comes must obey and obey the rules made by the committee,” he said.

Wonda added that the next Gebyar PON will take place in Mimika Regency on June 31, 2021. A similar event will also be held in Merauke Regency, Jayapura Regency, and the last one will take place in Jayapura City.

Chairman of the Gebyar PON Committee, Otniel Deda, said the committee had prepared tight security to limit the number of visitors, due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation. "It is possible that we will limit the number of visitors, so we apologize profusely. [Hopefully] Gebyar [PON] can continue to be successful,” said Deda.
