KNPB Activist Who Spreads Provocation Hoax Arrested in Merauke

The Nemangkawi Cyber ​​Ops Task Force team arrested the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) activist with the initials EKM (38) in Merauke, Papua. EKM was arrested for spreading false or provocative news through Manuel Metemko's Facebook.

Head of the Nemangkawi Ops Public Relations Task Force, Kombes Iqbal Alqudussy, revealed that EKM was arrested at his home in the area of ​​Jalan Perikanan Darat, Kelapa V Village, Merauke. EKM was arrested on Wednesday (9/6) night.

"EKM's arrest follows up on the investigation that had been carried out previously by the Nemangkawi Ops Task Force and the existence of LP/A/252/VI/2021/SPKT/Reskrim/Res Crime Unit/Res Merauke/Papua Police, dated June 7, 2021," said Iqbal as reported by Antara Thursday (10/6/2021).

The officers also confiscated a blue VIVO brand cell phone, model = Y15 2019, Imei numbered 35930210112XXXX, HP number 08134283XXXX.

From the online investigation of social media carried out by the Nemangkawi Cyber ​​Ops Task Force, it was found that there were five information related to the Facebook account in the name of Manuel Metemko.

Iqbal said the perpetrators were immediately taken to the Merauke Police Station for further investigation. In addition, digital forensic examination of the evidence that was secured was also carried out.

Furthermore, Iqbal reminded the public not to create and disseminate fake news, especially information that is provocative and has a tendency to hate to trigger hostility between individuals and between community groups.

"Don't present hateful news that results in enmity among the nation's children in Papua. People want to live in peace," he said.

For his actions, EKM is now in the detention cell of the Merauke Police and is threatened with imprisonment for several years as stipulated in Article 45 A paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 28 paragraph (2) of Law No. 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law No. 11 of 2008.
