Papuan Police Chief Orders All Police Chiefs to Anticipate Security Disturbances by 1 July

The Papuan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Mathius D Fakhiri instructed all police officers to carry out patrols and create conditions to anticipate security disturbances by July 1, 2021.

July 1 was claimed by a group of people as the anniversary of the Free Papua Organization (OPM). This moment becomes the attention of the Papua Regional Police every year.

I have reminded all police officers to anticipate this situation, especially in some vulnerable areas," he said

According to Fakhiri, the intensity of the commemoration of the July 1st has decreased in Papua, compared to the previous year.

Even so, the police ranks continue to make efforts to anticipate the raising of the Morning Star flag, or also a warning with the mode of worship.

“The previous year July 1 was not too urgent and usually safe. Hopefully this year it will remain safe," Fakhiri hoped.

He added that July 1 was also commemorated as the Anniversary of the Indonesian National Police, or the 75th Anniversary of Bhayangkara.
