Construction of XX PON infrastructure will be completed by the end of July

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono believes that the construction of several unfinished XX National Sports Week (PON) arenas, such as rollerblading, archery and rowing, will be completed by the end of July 2021.

In addition to the arenas for the three sports, said Basuki, five other arenas for the XX Papua PON have been 100 percent completed. The five arenas are an international standard aquatic arena, istora for several sports, cricket fields, indoor and outdoor hockey fields, and motorized sports lanes.

“Several competition arenas are currently under construction and are expected to be completed by the end of July because the progress has reached an average of 95 percent, namely the rollerblading, archery, and rowing arenas in Youtefa Bay. This has reached 95.85 percent and will be completed by the end of July," he said.

Basuki said that the PUPR Ministry was also working on construction for PON athlete accommodation, and structuring the area around the arena.

For accommodation, he said, the government has built 15 towers with a capacity of 2,500 beds for athletes and officials. President Jokowi also instructed that the construction of accommodation facilities can be reused after the XX PON is over.

"For this reason, we will build these flats later by considering the use of post-PON. We will build one of these flats for the needs of the low-income community later, so that it will be managed by the Regency or City Government," he added.

The PUPR Ministry has also built flats in church and university areas which are expected to be used by students. The construction of flats was also carried out in the headquarters area of ​​the Mobile Brigade (Brimob), Koya Koso and Sentani, Jayapura.

“Then we also built flats in the Brimob headquarters area in Koya Koso and also flats on the Polda land in Sentani. This is the hope of all later after PON can be used. Then there are also flats for ASN, both ASN in the district itself such as Merauke Regency and ASN PUPR, which we have centers, namely ASN in Jayapura and ASN in Merauke, "he said. Then, the Ministry of PUPR also organized the Kampung Harapan and Doyo Baru Sports Areas. In addition to preparing for PON XX, this arrangement is also to develop areas around PON facilities and infrastructure.

"We are structuring the area in the Kampung Harapan Sports Area. This is also done. Not only through landscaping, but also flood control. Then the arrangement of the sports area in Doyo Baru. This is also to improve the area as well, so that the implementation of this PON has an impact on regional development in Jayapura and four other clusters," he said.
