July 1 Bhayangkara Day is not the Awakening of the OPM, Papua is the Final Part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia

Jayapura district traditional leader Yanto Eluay emphasized that July 1 was Bhayangkara's birthday, not the day of the revival of the Papuan independence movement.

"Papua has become part of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia and cannot be separated and July 1 is not the moment for the revival of the Papuan independence movement anymore, because there is no room for the Free Papua Organization (OPM)," said Yanto Eluay in Sentani.

According to Yanto Eluay, who is also the son of the late Papuan leader Theys Hiyo Eluay, it is very wrong if July 1 is always used as a moment of the political agenda of the independent Papuan group. Because, he continued, Papua had finally become part of the Republic of Indonesia through the People's Opinion Determination (PEPERA) in 1969.

He appealed to the Papuan people not to question the Papuan territory which had been handed over in 1969 by the Papuan Indigenous Leaders to the Republic of Indonesia.

"Let us both be aware and admit that Papua is already in the lap of the motherland and there should be no more resistance movements, because the consequences of that movement have spilled a lot of blood on this land," he said.

Yanto advised groups that refused and did not want to recognize the process of integrating Papua into the NKRI to stop thinking about the struggle for an independent Papua. Because, Papua is no longer a stepchild because there has been a lot of development and attention from the Government of Indonesia for the welfare of Papua.

“This appeal is the responsibility of traditional leaders to protect and save the Papuan people. Once again I reiterate that July 1 there is no other agenda other than the anniversary of Bhayangkara, so let's keep this Papua safe and peaceful," said Yanto Eluay.
