PON Papua operational buses will be equipped with GPS
A total of 428 operational buses for the 2021 Papua National Sports Week (PON) will be equipped with a Global Positioning System (GPS), said Head of the Papuan Transportation Service, Recky Ambrauw, quoted from the Papua Pengprov website, Thursday.
Recky Ambrauw revealed that the purpose of this GPS installation is to monitor vehicle movements during the biggest sporting event in Indonesia.
Currently, all operational buses for PON Papua, which consist of micro and medium buses, are already in Tanjung Priok, Jakarta and ready to be shipped to Papua.
In its implementation, around 300 buses will operate in Jayapura City and Regency. "The rest is divided between Merauke Regency and Mimika Regency," said Recky Ambrauw.
Regarding operational bus drivers, Recky Ambrauw said he was still coordinating with the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub).
Referring to the virtual meeting of the Governor of Papua and Chairman of PB PON Lukas Enembe with President Joko Widodo, recently, regional heads requested that bus drivers or drivers be recruited from Papua.
"Because later these drivers will operate the bus up to the agenda of the National Paralympic Week or Peparnas," said Recky Ambrauw.
Previously, the General Secretary of PB PON Papua, Elia Loupatty, said that the operational buses for PON Papua assisted by the central government would be distributed in four clusters, namely Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency, Mimika, and Merauke Regency.
The hundreds of buses will serve thousands of athletes and officials from all provinces in Indonesia.
PON Papua is scheduled to be held on October 2-15. Previously, Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali said preparations were going well and according to progress.
According to him, all athletes who will appear have also undergone vaccination. Even so with infrastructure such as match venues, everything went according to plan.
"In terms of equipment, both the equipment prepared by the Ministry of Youth and Sports for 26 sports are in process. It is confirmed that by the end of August all of them will be in Papua and installed. The 13 sports that are procured by the APBD or PB PON are all going well," said Zainudin Amali.
