Involvement of Papuans in the Youth Pledge
Youth Pledge Day is celebrated every 28 October. The Youth Pledge itself is a pledge of Indonesian youth who claim to shed one blood, the land of Indonesia.
Chairman of the Papuan Indigenous Youth Region II Saireri Ali Kabiay revealed, until now many indigenous Papuans did not know that several Papuan youths were present and witnessed the history of the youth oath at that time.
"In fact, three Papuan youths attended and took part in the pledge with youths from other regions, the three of them namely Aitai Karubaba, Abner Ohee and Orpa Pallo," said Ali as quoted from Tribun-Papua.com, Wednesday (27/10/2021). ).
It is said that the story of the involvement of Papuans in the Youth Oath of 28 October 1928 was passed down from generation to generation in the Ohee family in Sentani.
"One of them is the leader of the red and white line, Mr. Ramses Ohee," he said.
Furthermore, Ali explained that the Papua region is very wide. So it must be united, with the ideology of Pancasila.
"An ideology that is not in accordance with Pancasila cannot exist because it can damage the unity of the Indonesian nation in Papua," he said.
Ali said, he firmly rejected the ideology of separatism. Which continues to be voiced by anti-pancasila groups.
“As the customary leader of the II Saireri region, I am strict. Constantly rejecting ideologies that are contrary to Pancasila," he said.
He hopes, with the momentum of the Youth oath, it can provide new motivation for the Indonesian nation.
"The commemoration of the Youth Pledge Day is expected to be a momentum for optimizing the role of youth in contributing to the development of the nation. Especially in Papua," he added.
