OTSUS GIVES MANY ACHIEVEMENTS FOR THE LAND OF PAPUA

The chairman of the Sorong Raya Regional Customary Council, Elly Abisai, gave his support for the sustainability of Special Autonomy (Otsus) which has been going on for 20 years in Papua. He expressed this when met on Thursday (5/8/21).

During the 20 years of Otsus, many things have been achieved, including the development of infrastructure and human resources for indigenous Papuans (OAP). In addition, Otsus has also given more authority to Papua, as evidenced by the accommodation of the Perdasus, and the recruitment of employees to accommodate OAP through the Otsus channel.

“The achievement of Otsus may not be perfect, but it is a significant progress towards Papua. Regarding the sustainability of Otsus, it is hoped that there will be improvements in the Special Autonomy Law volume II that are able to answer input from the community." clear Elly

The central government has given authority to local governments. The powers granted to Papua through Otsus are numerous, different from those of other regions.

He sees Otsus as a gift from God given by the Indonesian government to indigenous Papuans through the Special Autonomy Law no. 21 of 2001, besides that, the sustainability of Otsus volume II is very important for the people of West Papua, especially OAP, because Papua and West Papua will be more advanced if the development of infrastructure and human resources can be continued through further Otsus programs.
