Keerom Papua Will Become a National Corn Barn



Keerom Regency, which is located on the border of Papua and Papua New Guinea, will become a corn barn for national food security.

The Keerom Regency Government has even prepared 3 thousand hectares of land ready for planting. In addition, in the future there will be 10 thousand hectares of land ready for planting.
The Regent of Keerom, Pieter Gusbager, explained that the government is working with indigenous peoples to clear land for planting corn.

“In the near future, the President will plan to visit Keerom to see the readiness of the corn granary. There will be no dispute over the land to be planted because it belongs to the community, belongs to the farmers," said Gusbager, Tuesday (9/11).

Gusbager said that one hectare of land can produce up to 6 tons of corn. The Keerom Regency Government is collaborating with the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) to produce the best corn harvest.

Meanwhile, Pangdam Cenderawasih Maj. Gen. Ignatius Yogo Triyono visited Workwana Village, Arso District, Keerom Regency which is planned to be used as land for planting corn.

Pangdam said, the corn barn in Keerom is a long-term strategy in creating a food estate in the eastern part of Indonesia.
